8e35d96057 ssl_mail_client: Check return value of mbedtls_snprintf
The return value of snprintf() is the number of characters (excluding
the null terminator) which would have been written to the buffer if
enough space had been available. Thus, a return value of size or more

dd9cbf99c2 Benchmark only one side of ECDH, both static and ephemeral
Static ECDH is of interest to us as developers because it's a generic
scalar multiplication (as opposed to using the standard base point) and
it's useful to have that handy.

For reference the other operations of interest to developers are:
- multiplication of the conventional base point: ECDSA signing is almost
exactly that (just a few field ops on top, notably 1 inversion);
- linear combination: ECDSA verification is almost exactly that too.

Including ephemeral as well, because it's hopefully what's of interest
to most users.

Compared to the previous version, include only one side of the
operations. I don't think including both sides is of interest to anyone.

984352d6f1 Benchmark: remove the legacy-context ECDH block
We have two blocks of code to benchmark ECDH. One uses the legacy context
structure, which is only enabled when MBEDTLS_ECP_RESTARTABLE is enabled.
That block doesn't convey any information that's specific to restartable
ECC, it exists only for historical reasons (it came first). The other block
uses only the implementation-agnostic API.

Remove the block that uses the legacy context. It doesn't provide much
extra information and most users won't even see it.

9de6edd462 Separate memory poisoning tests from generic ASan
Some platforms may support ASan but be C99-only (no C11 support).
These platforms will support ASan metatests but not memory poisoning,
which requires C11 features.

To allow for this, create a separate platform requirement, "poison",
in metatest.c to distinguish generic ASan metatests from ones that
require suppport for memory poisoning.

In practice our platforms support both, so run "poison" tests in
the same all.sh components where we run "asan" ones.

Set the C_STANDARD property on the mbedtls_test target to 11.
This requests C11 for the tests only.

If C11 is not supported the build will not fail, since
C_STANDARD_REQUIRED is not set, and memory poisoning will be disabled
by a preprocessor check on __STDC_VERSION__.

Additionally, reintroduce previous C99 enforcement on the rest of the
library.

4411c9c1f8 Disable PSA wrappers psa_collect_statuses builds
`psa_collect_statuses.py` runs `make RECORD_PSA_STATUS_COVERAGE_LOG=1`,
which builds with `RECORD_PSA_STATUS_COVERAGE_LOG`. In this mode, the build
includes wrappers for PSA functions, which conflict with the newly
introduced wrappers that are enabled whenever `MBEDTLS_TEST_HOOKS` is
enabled. In the future, the collect-statuses mechanism should use the new
generic wrapper mechanism. For the time being, keep the old wrappers and
avoid the new wrappers when doing the collect-statuses build.

0ae58dd985 Unify MBEDTLS_TEST_OBJS
`$(MBEDTLS_TEST_OBJS)` included TLS-specific test support modules in
`tests/Makefile` but not in `programs/Makefile`. This difference is not
actually necessary. What is necessary is that all programs that use
functions from TLS-specific test support modules are linked with those
modules in addition to `-lmbedtls`, and programs that are not linked with
`-lmbedtls` are not linked with TLS-specific test support modules. Since we
always pass `-lmbedtls` when linking programs in `programs/Makefile`, we can
link with the TLS-specific test support modules as well. This keeps things
simpler.

52cc2a6368 Use new mbedtls_ecp_keypair functions in sample programs
This eliminates the use of MBEDTLS_PRIVATE in sample programs to access
fields of an mbedtls_ecp_keypair structure.

When displaying elliptic curve points, the program now display the
coordinates in the standard form instead of the internal representation.

The auxiliary function show_ecp_key is present in three programs. It's more
complex than the previous code which was also triplicated. There's no good
place for such auxiliary functions that don't belong in the library and are
used in multiple sample programs.

0bdb6dc079 Fix memory poisoning with Asan on arbitrary byte boundaries
Asan poisons memory with an 8-byte granularity. We want to make sure that
the whole specified region is poisoned (our typical use case is a
heap-allocated object, and we want to poison the whole object, and we don't
care about the bytes after the end of the object and up to the beginning of
the next object). So align the start and end of the region to (un)poison to

0ec1e68548 Replace Windows APIs that are banned in Windows Store apps
CryptGenRandom and lstrlenW are not permitted in Windows Store apps,
meaning apps that use mbedTLS can't ship in the Windows Store.
Instead, use BCryptGenRandom and wcslen, respectively, which are
permitted.

Also make sure conversions between size_t, ULONG, and int are
always done safely; on a 64-bit platform, these types are different
sizes.

Also suppress macro redefinition warning for intsafe.h:

Visual Studio 2010 and earlier generates C4005 when including both
<intsafe.h> and <stdint.h> because a number of <TYPE>_MAX constants
are redefined. This is fixed in later versions of Visual Studio.
The constants are guaranteed to be the same between both files,
however, so we can safely suppress the warning when including
intsafe.h.

e820c0abc8 Update spelling "mbed TLS" to "Mbed TLS"
The official spelling of the trade mark changed from all-lowercase "mbed"
to normal proper noun capitalization "Mbed" a few years ago. We've been
using the new spelling in new text but still have the old spelling in a
lot of text. This commit updates most occurrences of "mbed TLS":

```
sed -i -e 's/mbed TLS/Mbed TLS/g' $(git ls-files ':!ChangeLog' ':!tests/data_files/**' ':!tests/suites/*.data' ':!programs/x509/*' ':!configs/tfm*')
```

Justification for the omissions:

* `ChangeLog`: historical text.
* `test/data_files/**`, `tests/suites/*.data`, `programs/x509/*`: many
  occurrences are significant names in certificates and such. Changing
  the spelling would invalidate many signatures and tests.
* `configs/tfm*`: this is an imported file. We'll follow the upstream
  updates.

0b62b7a21f Allow turning off re-generation of files with make
In make builds, when GEN_FILES is false (empty), don't try to re-generate
configuration-independent source files, regardless of whether they seem
out of date. This is useful, for example, if you have a source tree where
`make generated_files` has already run and file timestamps reflect the
time the files were copied or extracted, and you are now in an environment
that lacks some of the necessary tools to re-generate the files.

9af413bcc5 Don't try to include mbedtls/config_*.h
They're included by build_info.h and must not be included directly.

Currently, this only concerns one file: config_psa.h. It's technically a bug
to include it, but a harmless one because that header has already been
included by build_info.h except in configurations where it
effectively had no effect (enabling PSA options with PSA turned off).

We plan to split config_psa.h into multiple headers that are less
independent, which could make the inclusion more problematic.

186731b22a Fix warnings from clang-16
Running clang-16 on mbedtls reports warnings of type "-Wstrict-prototypes".
This patch fixes these warnings by adding void to functions with no
arguments. The generate_test_code.py is modified to insert void into test
functions with no arguments in *.function files.

b2bcdc1c17 Let demo scripts declare their dependencies
Demo scripts should declare their build-time dependencies, to make
them more user-friendly. If a dependency is not met, users should see
an explicit message rather than an incomprehensible error.

Don't rely on the dependencies of individual programs because some
demo scripts use multiple programs and because some scripts might have
additional requirements.

d1b5f6f609 Move common code of demo scripts into a library
The new file programs/demo_common.sh contains initialization code,
utility functions and cleanup code meant to be used by all demo
scripts written in sh.

Initial features:

* msg: Display a message.
* run, run_bad: Run a command, visibly.
* $root_dir, $programs_dir: location of the mbedtls source tree.
* $files_to_clean: files that are cleaned up on exit.
